Let's look at a few things we can do to try and get this up and running again:

If the printer doesn't even power on

The first thing to check is the power cable in the back of the printer and make sure that is secure. Then follow that cable to the rectangular power block and make sure that is plugged in solidly and finally into the wall outlet and make sure that it's plugged in properly there. Also verify the wall outlet itself still has power -- easy to do this by plugging in a phone charger, then plug in a phone and see if the charging indicator lights up.

Replacing the printer roll paper

  1. open the roll paper cover

  2. Remove the used roll paper core and insert the roll paper. The correct direction of the paper is shown in the illustration below.

  3. Pull out some paper, and close the roll paper cover

Printer is On but doesn’t print

Locate the small round hole on the lower back portion of the printer and poke a pen/paperclip into the hole for about 5 seconds, or until a small piece of

receipt paper prints out. Take a picture of that and send it to support@touchpoint.io. and we will investigate further.

Note: If nothing prints at the 5 second mark, please let go of the reset button and let us know that it wouldn't print; holding it longer than 5 seconds can factory reset the printer.

Reconfiguring the Epson Printer

In order to reconfigure your Epson printer, you will need to complete the following steps.

A) Reset the printer to factory defaults:
  1. Power the printer down using the switch on the front
  2. Turn the printer around, and with a pen (or paperclip, etc...), press and hold the pinhole reset button (depending on the age of the printer depends on location of this hole)
  3. Power the printer back on, and continue holding the reset button down until it begins to print (DO NOT TURN THE PRINTER OFF AT THIS POINT).

The printer has now been reset back to factory defaults. To verify this, press and hold the reset button again for a few seconds while the printer is on for the printout below.

Note: If it does not show this SSID and IP address, please redo steps 1. to 5.

B) Prepare an iPad to use for configuring the printer:
  1. Grab any available iPad, and ensure that you are within a few feet of the printer
  2. From the home screen, navigate to Settings > Wifi
  3. Find the network named "EPSON_Printer" and connect to it using "12345678" for the password
  4. Return to the home screen, and open a Safari browser
  5. Navigate to "192.168.192.168" by entering that into the address bar of the browser (if you get a warning, just tap "Show Details" and continue to site)
  6. Log into this site using "epson" for the username, the password will either be epson or the serial number of your printer.
Note: If the iPad will not connect to this network, please recheck your password entry, and also ensure that you are close enough to printer for it to communicate properly.

C) Configure the printer so that it can be used on your TPINTERNAL network:
  1. Once signed into the EpsonNet Config page, tap on "Wireless" under Configuration > Network
  2. Set "Communication Standard" to "Auto"
  3.  Set "SSID" to "TPINTERNAL" (all uppercase letters)
  4. Set "WPA Pre-Shared Key" to "tpiosecret" (all lowercase letters)
  5. Set "Power Save" to "Disable"
  6. Tap "Send" at the bottom of the page to save the work
  7. On the next page tap "Reset", and the printer will reboot itself
For your reference, a correctly configured setup page should look like the following image:

Once you have completed the steps above you will need to wait for 1 minute. Then, to verify that the configuration was successful, you can reprint the network configuration page by pressing the pinhole reset button - again, while the printer is on - and immediately letting go when the print out begins. This time the SSID should read "TPINTERNAL" and you should have an IP address that begins with "10.0.0".
Note: If the printer is still set to "EPSON_Printer" with the default IP address, you will need to complete steps B. and C. again.

At this point you should be able to do a test by printing a receipt.
Note: As your cash drawers are operated by the printer, don't forget to test it using the "No Sale" function on the POS (Options menu > Active Cash Drawer).

If you've completed all the steps above and are still unable to get this working, please take a picture of the last network configuration print out and send it back to us for review.

Cabling (Drawer)

The Printer connects to the underside of the cash drawer with a special cable that looks like ethernet on one end, and a phone jack on the other.

This is an APG KIT # CD-005A

  • Make sure it’s the right cable, an APG KIT # CD-005A.
  • Disconnect the cable from the printer and the drawer, then reconnect.

  • To check if the cable is damaged, swap the cable with a different register. If the drawer now opens, you know that the cable is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Why Won’t The Drawer Open?

If a drawer won’t open, the issue is most likely with the connected printer. Those are the most likely reasons why it won’t open:

  • Printer out of paper,
  • printer off,
  • Wrong or damaged cable connecting printer and drawer
